Thanks so much for posting all this!!! It is definately a lot more helpful knowing the stage actions.

So here's my thoughts on the changes:

Giry Confronts the Phantom- I wish they had kept the lyric the way it was…although the new lyric is good, I preferred the original--showed more of the Phantom's desperation and determination I think.

Christine Disembarks- Wonder why they changed the name of the ship to Mauretania, since I believe it was mentioned that Persephone had some relevance to the HP. :-k

BAMS- Loved all the changes here!!!! Especially Christine slapping Erik! It adds more drama and passion to an already passionate song :rose:

OUAT- Loved the almost kiss!!!

Phantom Confronts Christine- Hmm... :-k On the fence about the whole Erik nearly choking Christine thing- I understand why he'd do it (or almost do it) but it is a bit out of character for him to want to kill Christine [-X

Before the Performance- Very interresting how Christine removes the earrings. Could she symbolically be betraying Erik once again?? Since I believe it was mentioned before that the earrings (being on the left) symbolized Erik—since left is Erik. Also right after she does so, Erik appears and makes his case of why she should stay with him. Hmmm… :-k

PMGIWTGB- Loved the changes here as well :D Especially with Erik putting the ring onto Christine’s finger. :( I think that it is a great addition to the end scene since it also links to the original ending in the stage version of Phantom…after Christine gives Erik the ring back and leaves with Raoul #-o , you see that after a while Erik slips the ring onto his pinky finger – symbolizing a marriage perhaps?? —especially now that the Phantom puts the ring on Christine’s finger at the end of LND.

Oh, I agree, TPS! The changes- what I've read so far- are awesome. =D> :rose:
Strange that they would change the name of the ship- such a seemingly trivial detail, no huge plot change, not even a significant one at a glance- but big as far as the hidden plot goes. Am wondering if it's just a clue ALW had for a short time for those lucky enough to catch it, as he did in PotO- showing something for a few frames- now you see it, now you don't kind of deal. lol I mean really. Why change the name of the ship??? (Unless the Mauretania is also significant to HP)

I have been going through the old PotO unraveling thread from the WB board. (betcha didn't know I saved it, huh?- part one is almost 100, 000 kbs!) - but I ran across this: I can't tell, from the way I saved it, if Mia or Ppandora wrote it (sorry, for space purposes I couldn't always save the banner/picture telling who was who), but I remember there was a lot of uncertainty about Raoul at the time (and later on, clues seemed to point that he had joined forces with the P. spirit in desperation to usurp the king- Erik... why he begged Christine's forgiveness at the end, among other reasons...and why Erik asked Raoul why should he (Erik) punish Christine for the sins that were his - Raoul's.)

here it is:
Also, and I think I have said this before, in the CB on the last page, it reads when Meg picks up the mask "Camera moves into the BLACK EYE HOLE OF THE MASK as we dissolve to RAOUL'S EYE....1919 (BLACK AND WHITE). I have always felt that that was significant. Anyway, just my thoughts.

Clues/symbolism, perhaps, that Raoul would fall into despair because of his foolish choices, as seems to be clear he did - now showing in LND, and later, at auction, (if comparing it to movie) he was lame (symbolic of a weakened spirit) and older looking than M. Giry, who was supposed to be 15 years older, if I remember correctly ...
Music brought them together...One kiss bound them for life...
And two hearts were entwined for all eternity

I think before all the changes, the only kiss was the final scene and it still is, but these "almost kisses" really add to the story, showing their passion/longing IMO =D>

Yeah I totally think she is thinking "I can't do this!" and is starting to undress, so torn

I was a little curious about this too so I just poked around a bit and discovered something interesting:

The ship's name was taken from Mauretania, an ancient Roman province on the northwest African coast, not related to the modern Mauritania.

Here's the page from Wikipedia about the ancient kingdom of Mauretania, from which the ship was named.
It's quite interesting. :)
